Dry, DRY Very Dry Hands

  • 3 min read

Could your skin use a little extra love? We know ours could. With everything going on in the world today we are now washing our hands more than ever and a common side effect we are seeing is dry, dry, DRY hands. With many of us looking for fun and inexpensive ways to stay moisturized right now why not try this DIY as a way to engage the family with a fun project!

We love this recipe (we posted a similar recipe recently) but we want to let you know that some ingredients can be substituted for others you may have instead! If you’re wondering if a substitute ingredient will work, feel free to DM us on Instagram and ask! We are here for you!

We also encourage you all to get creative when it comes to choosing your essential oils. Of course, it is important to choose an EO that will get the job done, but don’t forget to pick something with an aroma you will enjoy wearing all day!

Practicing mindfulness has become a more important task than ever. Start small and try to pick your EOs to meet your skin’s current needs and your desired aroma.

Here is what you will need:

1 C shea butter

1/2 C coconut oil

2 Tbls grapeseed oil or any other carrier oil (or a combination)

or

1 cup Shea butter

1/2 cup jojoba or any other carrier oil (or a combination)

or

1/2 cup Cocoa butter

1/2 cup Coconut oil

1/2 cup Fractionated Coconut oil

Now for the ESSENTIAL OILS.  You can try one of our Synergistic Blends or get creative and blend your own… Here are a few oils you might like to try.

but make sure to share with us what you choose! We love seeing all of you making our DIYs! Tag @wyndmerenaturals on Instagram!

Now let’s get to business.

To begin, measure out your solid ingredients (which will be solid at room temperature below 76 degrees) and melt over medium-low heat in a double boiler, stirring constantly until there are no lumps left.

Let this cool for about 30 minutes, before stirring in the liquid carrier oil and the 25-30 drops of your EOs of your choosing.

Now, wait…like a long time or cover mixture and put into your freezer for about 20-30 minutes, OR refrigerate for 1-2 hours. You want the body butter to start to solidify but not completely harden, a consistency similar to soft wax or softened butter.

Once you’ve patiently waited you are ready to transfer to a mixing bowl and whip until soft and fluffy. You can use a hand mixer, blender, standing mixer…shoot you can even hand whip it with a whisk if you’re feeling industrious. But if the mixture won’t whip or stay whipped, you need to chill it longer.

If the mixture has lumps in it after you’ve whipped it, let it set to soften a bit and then try again. This will work if you need to rework your constancy.

Keep in mind that this mixture is formulated to be oily and absorb slowly into your skin. However, if you prefer to make it less oily, simply add 1.5 teaspoons of either cornstarch, tapioca starch, or arrowroot starch.

After you have reached that perfect whipped body butter consistency, spoon it into a clean glass jar with a tight sealing lid. Smooth over skin anytime that winter weather has you needing to reach for a little extra moisture.
