Bite & Sting Poultice with Lavender and Chamomile

  • 1 min read

Essential oil DIY clay poultice for bug bites to help pull out the stinger.

Bite & Sting Poultice

Nobody enjoys getting bitten or stung by bugs. Today's DIY is a natural remedy we use nearly every day in the summer. As an added bonus, children especially enjoy helping to make a "magic bug bite" paste!

For painful stings or bites, bentonite clay poultices are a great help. Simply apply a small amount of this clay mixture to the affected area. As it dries the clay pulls toxins to the skin's surface to keep them from spreading, while at the same time pulling out pus or stingers that may be embedded in the skin. The addition of soothing Lavender & Chamomile essential oils helps reduce inflammation and swelling and help to gently heal.

Mix in one of our 1oz or 4oz plastic jars to save and have on hand, or use a small bowl if you have to make it on the fly! Add water slowly to clay, stirring as the clay absorbs it, taking the time to make sure you get the consistency you desire. Add the essential oils, stirring to distribute evenly.

You should have a thick paste once you have finished - you can gradually add more water to achieve the desired paste consistency. Cover tightly, label, and keep it in your first aid kit, beach bag, or purse.
